National Mimosa Day

National Mimosa DayNational Mimosa Day

Celebrate this brunch favorite on May 16th for National Mimosa Day. Made with orange juice and sparkling wine, or real champagne if you’re feeling extra fancy, the mimosa has been a signature daytime cocktail since the 1930s.

While the history of the day itself is something of a mystery, mimosas themselves date back to the 1920s and were likely ins[ired by a cocktail served at London’s Buck’s Club, the Buck’s Fizz. It is also speculated that the name of the drink comes from an Australian flower that shares the same yellow color.

The first published recipe for mimosas was included in Frank Meie’s “The Artistry of Mixing Drinks”, though modern mimosas generally have quite a bit more wine than the original called for.

From there, the mimosa gained national and worldwide fame as it was popularized by famed filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock.

So whether you drink mimosas after a rough night or just enjoy the decadent drink as part of your weekly brunch, make sure to raise a glass for National Mimosa Day on May 16th.
