The creation of the s’more has been credited to Alec Barnum, an American entrepreneur, but the success of the s’more owes just as much to the Girl Scouts. In fact, the first printed appearance of the recipe came in 1927 in Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts and there are reports of the recipe’s use in the organization as early as 1925.

So whether you like your marshmallows barely warm or burnt to a crisp, gather your friends and family for a bonfire and roast up some of these gooey delights on August 10th for National S’mores Day.
