National Pasta Day
National Pasta Day
Put the pot on to boil and stir up your favorite type of sauce for National Pasta Day on October 17th.
Pasta, as distinct from other types of noodles, comes from Italy where the word literally translates to dough. The many variations of pasta were developed out of the Ancient Roman dough made with just flour and water.
While pasta has been enjoyed in Italy for thousands of years, the dish didn’t make its way to the U.S. until 1789 when Thomas Jefferson brought a pasta machine and several crates of macaroni back with him after a trip to Italy.
As more and more Italians fled to the U.S. in the 19th century, pasta became more and more popular and new Americanized versions of classic Italian dishes started popping up including the ever-popular fettuccine alfredo.
So whether you make your own from scratch or boil your noodles straight out of the box, be sure to have some variation on October 17th for National Pasta Day.
