National Ice Cream Soda Day

National Ice Cream Soda DayNational Ice Cream Soda Day

June 20th marks the date for National Ice Cream Soda Day. Like all sodas, ice cream soda gets its start in 1810 when Simmons and Rundell begin mass-producing soda water.

As for ice cream soda itself, there are a number of claims to it’s origin, such as that of Robert McCay who claimed to have invented the drink in 1874 when he ran out of ice for his shaved ice treats at his shop in Philadelphia.

Another contender for the title of ice cream soda inventor is Philip Mohr who claimed to have been mixing ice cream and soda water since 1862 in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

There are many more who have laid claim to the title, but regardless of who the true inventor was, the ice cream soda has carved out its place in history. So, don’t forget to head to your local diner or make yourself one at home for National Ice Cream Soda Day on June 20th.
