National Cherries Jubilee DayNational Cherries Jubilee Day

Get ready to be dazzled, but keep the fire extinguisher handy, as we celebrate National Cherries Jubilee Day on September 24th.

First served as a dessert at Queen Victoria’s jubilee celebration in 1897, the dish was enormously popular during her reign. The dish also enjoyed a revival in the 1950s and 1960s as well as its current comeback as a vintage fascination.

Credit for the dish’s creation is placed solidly with the famous French chef, Auguste Escoffier. The dish was created with the expres intention of making an impact on the guests who bare witness to the flambé right in front of them as it is lit after being presented.

So try your hand at making your own if you’re looking to wow the crowd, or trust the creation and ignition of this incendiary dessert to the professionals at your favorite French restaurant on September 24th for NAtional Cherries Jubilee Day.
