National Banana Split DayNational Banana Split Day

Get excited to celebrate this delightful dessert for National Banana Split Day on August 25th.

The first banana split was created in 1904 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, by 23-year-ol David Evans Strickler, the apprentice pharmacist at Tassel’s Pharmacy. Strickler’s “banana-based triple ice cream sundae” was sold for twice as much as the other sundaes available at the pharmacy’s soda fountain for a whopping 10 cents.

The popularity of the banana split soon spread, and with the help of Charles Rudolph Walgreens and the Walgreens drug stores, it quickly became a favorite indulgence for American’s across the map.

So head out to your favorite old-fashioned diner, ice cream parlor, or sundae shop to share this frozen classic on August 25th for National Banana Split Day.
